Leg 1: 5.83 miles – flat Leg 2: 6.93 miles – uphill across the Glen Jackson Bridge over I-205 Leg 3: 3.44 miles – flat until a steep hill for the last ¼ mile Leg 4: 4.65 miles – uphill for the first ½ mile and then flat Leg 5: 5.36 miles – mostly flat with a few moderate hills Where does the Relay start? The Relay begins at 7 a.m. at 8338 NE Alderwood Road at the parking lot of the Portland International Plaza business park, which is near the Portland Airport. Where should I park? For the Marathon Relay, park at the start lot at 8338 NE Alderwood Road. How do we get to and from the Relay exchange points? Shuttle buses at the start will take and pick-up runners for the first and second exchange points. The buses at the Nautilus campus (16400 SE Nautilus Drive in Vancouver) will take and pick-up runners for the third exchange point. The fourth exchange point is at Nautilus. Can I take a shuttle bus from the start to the finish at Nautilus? NO. There will NOT be buses to transport runners from the relay start to the relay finish and vice-versa. Should Relay participants use their own cars? Teams should use ONE car and drop their first three runners at the start and then park their car at Nautilus with their fourth and fifth runners. If you take two cars, one car should park at the start and the other at the finish at Nautilus. Can we park at the Relay exchange points? NO. Relay team members must ride a shuttle bus to and from their exchange point. Parking of participant vehicles at the exchange points is NOT available, except at Nautilus. Where/what is packet pick-up? Packet pick-up is mandatory for one Marathon Relay team member on Saturday, July 12 at the Nautilus campus. Team captains will be given their team’s T-shirts, bib numbers, slap bracelet and reminders once the event waiver, signed by all five team members, has been presented at packet pick-up. Event numbers/packets will NOT be given unless each participant has signed the event waiver. Packets will be issued only to the team captain or a designated Relay team member. Packet Pick-up will be held the day prior to the event – Saturday, July 14 - at the Nautilus campus (16400 SE Nautilus Way in Vancouver) from 10 am to 2 pm. What if I can’t attend packet pick-up? Packet pick-up is mandatory for at least one member of each Marathon Relay team. The team captain or his/her designated representative must attend, bring the completed, signed waiver, and pick-up the team’s packet. Where do I store my warm-ups? Relay participants should give their warm-ups to the runner they replace at each exchange point. It is a good idea to bring an extra sweatshirt to give to the runner who follows you so he or she can hand you your sweatshirt as you make the slap bracelet exchange. For the Relay team member who starts the event, his or her warm-ups can be checked at the start and picked up when the shuttle bus returns you to the start after you have run the first leg of the course. How many participants are expected? 500 runners are expected for the Marathon Relay. Where are the restrooms? Portable toilets will be at the start and finish lines for the Marathon Relay and along the routes. Where is the best place to watch the event? The finish line the last exchange point for the Marathon Relay are excellent spectator locations and all are located at the Nautilus campus. Will there be professional medical personnel at the event? Yes. Medical personnel will be at the Nautilus campus. There will also be medical aid available on the Marathon Relay course. Will there be food and water? Water will be available at each Marathon Relay exchange point, near the mid-points of most Relay legs, as well as at the start and finish locations. Bagels and fruit will be provided free at the finish line for all Marathon Relay participants. When/where can I see an event route map? You can view a route map here. How should I train for the Marathon Relay? You should plan on training by running at least 20 – 30 miles per week. This is an excellent training event for Hood-to-Coast and other relay events you and your team may be participating in this summer.
